The Vulture Park is a protected natural area of Basilicata that extends on the slopes of & nbsp; Monte Vulture, & nbsp; ancient extinct volcano, & nbsp; for 57,496 hectares and which includes the municipalities of Atella, Barile, Ginestra, Melfi, Rapolla, Rionero in Vulture, Ripacandida, Ruvo del Monte and San Fele, all belonging to the Province of Potenza.

What makes this area unique is & nbsp; its & nbsp; very rich biodiversity, & nbsp; due to the variety of the ecosystem and the different climates of the elevations, concentrated in a restricted territory.

Hence the surprising diversification of the landscape, characterized by an alternation of mountains and hills, flowering meadows and rivers, lakes and dense woods.

At an altitude of 650 meters, the two & nbsp; lakes of Monticchio meet, Lago Grande and Lago Piccolo, two natural pools of water communicating with each other and with emerald green waters.

In the Park, the presence of a very rare night butterfly, the European Bramea , is of particular importance, the presence of which in this area is due to the existence of an area rich in specimens of Southern Ash, the plant which hosts the caterpillars of this species.
