The park’s trails

The environmental system of the Parco del Vulture provides various options for those seeking excursions in direct contact with nature, satisfying the ever-growing demand of ecotourists: from visits to protected areas to climbs on mountain trails; from bicycle trekking to horse riding; from themed itineraries to simple contemplation of the landscape.

All the proposed itineraries are in wooded areas, sometimes crossing open stretches from which the eye can roam over the landscape. Some of them, notably, run along the ridge lines, offering impressive panoramic views of the surrounding areas.

The itineraries follow numerous forest service and fire-fighting trails and, in large sections, also retrace the old tracks used by the ruffians of the legendary brigand Crocco to escape from the towns after the raids and seek refuge in the woodlands that were their allies. The routes are clustered around the area's main environmental and historical-artistic landmarks, such as the Monticchio Lakes, Monte Vulture, Monte S. Michele and the majestic white Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo.

They stand out in particular due to their circular route, the low altitude differences and the shortness of the routes, which make them accessible to most visitors. They can be completed throughout the year, but, especially in winter, they require proper training and equipment.
